This week’s basketball recap features Joliet West’s surprising win over Warren and notable player performances across the league
Joliet West had a rough start to the season, dropping out of the Super 25 after a loss to Romeoville. They struggled against DePaul Prep and New Trier, and even lost to Crete-Monee. So, no one expected them to pull off such a big win against Warren.
Davis is a standout player, and even though Warren lost, he hit a milestone by scoring over 1,000 points in his career. That’s pretty impressive for a sophomore! He’s been averaging 19.2 points over 52 games, which is no small feat.
Warren has a solid record, with wins against some tough teams. If they can get their starters back, they could be a top contender. Meanwhile, Joliet West is looking to keep the momentum going with upcoming games against Oswego and Minooka.
Zion Gross has been a key player for Joliet West, scoring 26 points against Warren. Ethan Hillsman, a junior who recently transferred, added 15 points.
In other news, Lake Park’s Orion Kelly-Quintero made a triumphant return to the court after two serious injuries. He played his first varsity game and even scored a three-pointer right after coming in. His coach shared how proud he was of Orion for not giving up through all the rehab.
This week had some notable games, with teams like Benet and Stevenson also making headlines. It’s been an exciting week in high school basketball!
