Stockport: Power is finally coming back to the apartments at Meadow Mill after a nasty flood two weeks ago. Residents are waiting for news on when they can move back in.

Electricians are busy restoring electricity using a temporary setup. They’re also testing safety systems, which should wrap up by the end of the week.

They plan to switch from the temporary power to a permanent connection on Saturday, January 18. The water supply is back too, but residents can’t use it just yet while the pipes are cleaned.

Meadow Mill is owned by Awal Investments and managed by CERT. Many residents lost their cars in the flooding, which was a real blow.

In a recent update, CERT promised to keep leaseholders in the loop about when they can return home after the power switchover.

They mentioned that the electricians are working hard to get everything back to normal. Once the switch to the permanent power supply is done, they’ll confirm when residents can move back in.

It’s been a tough couple of weeks for everyone. The flooding hit on New Year’s Eve, leaving many homes unsafe. Emergency services had to rescue some tenants trapped inside.

After the flood, residents had to crash with friends or family or find hotels, which can get pricey. A few even moved back in without power or water because they ran out of money for hotels.

They described it as “freezing” with temperatures dropping below zero at night. Thankfully, AXA, the insurance provider, stepped in ten days later to help those who couldn’t return home.

Meadow Mill has a long history, built around 1880, and was turned into apartments just a couple of years ago in May 2021.
