Maui: I moved to Maui with my first wife after a vacation there. It felt like paradise at first, but things changed. After a tough divorce, I left the island feeling hopeless.

Years later, I returned with my new family to show them the place that helped me heal. I met my first wife while working at a fast food joint. We hit it off and got married just three months later, right after my 18th birthday. We were both from Milwaukee and raised three kids in Wisconsin.

For our 10th anniversary, we wanted to celebrate somewhere special. After some research, we picked Maui, Hawaii. I thought it would be nice, but I had no idea how much I would fall in love with the island. The culture, the food, and the laid-back vibe made every day feel like a dream.

Maui became a significant part of my life, especially through two marriages and a lot of healing. We debated moving there, weighing the costs and being away from family, but it felt right. The kids were excited, and so were we. We sold most of our stuff, rented a home, and lived just a few blocks from the beach.

Life in Maui was everything we hoped for, but my marriage struggled. We were far from our comfort zone, and small arguments turned into big fights, leading to our divorce just two years after moving there.

Divorce is tough financially, and supporting my ex and three kids left me with barely anything. I left Maui with just $28 in my account and no hope, using my last dollars to fly back to the mainland.

I ended up in South Florida around Christmas, crashing on a friend’s couch. I still had my online business, so I focused on making it work. I offered promotions and created content, and slowly, sales started coming in.

Even though I was broke, I knew I needed help, so I spent what little I had on therapy. As I healed, I felt a strong urge to return to Maui. I couldn’t explain it, but I knew I needed to go back to finish my healing.

After paying my bills and child support, I still had little cash, but I used travel rewards to book a flight back to Maui. I found a cheap hostel for a month and was ready to rough it.

Once I arrived, I realized I had completed my healing. I spent mornings in the ocean, working on my business from cafés by the water. I reconnected with friends, exercised, and enjoyed fresh food. That month on Maui changed everything for me.

Three years later, I met Cindy, and our friendship blossomed into a relationship. I remarried, got out of debt, and my business thrived. I wanted to take my new family to Maui to share the magic of the place that changed my life.

We had an amazing family vacation, and they loved it just as much as I did. We made it a tradition to visit every year until the tragic fire in Lahaina. Maui has a profound impact on me, and it remains my go-to place for healing and inspiration.
