Orlando: Matt Botsford has been eyeing the UCF volleyball program for a long time. Back in 2007, he even sent in a resume when a position opened up. He admits he wasn’t ready then, but now, nearly 18 years later, he feels prepared to take on the challenge.

He officially became the Knights’ coach on December 21 after a successful run at Florida Gulf Coast, where he led the team to four straight Atlantic Sun Conference titles and five NCAA tournament appearances. His impressive record of 263-78 puts him among the top active Division I coaches.

Botsford steps in after Jenny Maurer was let go following a tough season. UCF had its first losing record since 2015, which prompted the athletics director to seek a new direction. Maurer had previously been promoted after Todd Dagenais left, who had led the Knights to six NCAA tournament appearances.

UCF volleyball has a rich history, with 18 NCAA tournament appearances and a national championship in 1978. Botsford, a former player and coach in Sweden, is optimistic about the program’s future. He sees plenty of opportunities for success and is ready to set high expectations for the team. He’s all in and excited to get started!
