In a recent podcast, Zuckerberg criticized Apple for its lack of innovation and high fees imposed on developers
Cupertino: So, Mark Zuckerberg is at it again, taking jabs at Apple. He recently chatted with Joe Rogan and didn’t hold back. It’s clear he’s not a fan of how Apple operates these days.
During the podcast, Zuckerberg pointed out that Apple hasn’t really come up with anything groundbreaking since the iPhone. He feels they’ve been coasting on that success for too long.
He mentioned that Apple’s been making money by charging developers hefty fees and creating a closed-off ecosystem. It’s like they’re making it tough for others to play in their sandbox.
Zuckerberg gave Apple credit for the iPhone but said they haven’t invented anything cool in ages. He joked that it’s like they’re just sitting on their laurels, 20 years later.
He also talked about how Apple’s been “squeezing people” with what he calls a “30% tax” on developers. That’s a pretty big hit for anyone trying to create apps.
He brought up the AirPods too, saying they’re neat but have made it hard for other companies to connect with iPhones. It’s like they’ve built a wall around their products.
When Meta was working on the Ray-Ban glasses, they ran into trouble because Apple wouldn’t let them use the same connection protocol as AirPods. Zuckerberg thinks Apple is hiding behind privacy concerns to keep things exclusive.
His tech chief, Andrew Bosworth, echoed this worry, saying Apple’s devices are so locked down that they can favor their own products over others.
Interestingly, spokespeople from both Meta and Apple didn’t respond to requests for comments over the weekend. It seems like this feud is still simmering.
Zuckerberg’s been busy with his own changes at Meta, especially with the upcoming Trump administration. But his issues with Apple go way back to 2014.
He’s criticized Apple’s pricing, app store policies, and even their new Vision Pro VR headsets. But despite all this, he’s still optimistic about the tech world.
He believes that if a company doesn’t keep up for a decade, they’ll eventually get outpaced by someone else. The tech scene is always changing, and that’s what keeps it exciting.
