Zaporizhzhia: So, Marco Rubio, who’s in line to be Secretary of State, had some strong words during his Senate hearing. He said the war in Ukraine needs to end and that neither side can really win it outright. He pointed out that it’s unrealistic to think Russia can take all of Ukraine or that Ukraine can push Russia back completely.

Rubio stressed that the U.S. should have a clear goal for the conflict, unlike the current administration. He believes the idea of giving Ukraine endless aid isn’t practical. He mentioned that achieving peace will take serious effort and bold diplomacy, starting with a cease-fire.

He acknowledged that both Russia and Ukraine will need to make concessions for peace to happen. It’s all about finding balance and leverage on both sides. Meanwhile, Trump, who’s set to take office, has shifted his focus from a quick resolution to getting both leaders to the negotiating table. He hasn’t shared his plans for which territories might stay with Russia, like Crimea or Donetsk, until talks begin.
