Manchester United has secured a top replacement for Kyle Walker, who is exploring options to leave Manchester City for a new challenge abroad
During City’s recent 8-0 win over Salford City, Walker wasn’t even in the squad. Guardiola confirmed that Walker’s request to leave came just a couple of days ago. He said it’s tough to talk about because Walker isn’t around, but he respects his decision.
Guardiola reflected on how crucial Walker has been for the team over the years. He mentioned that if a player’s heart isn’t in it, they can’t perform at their best. Walker’s been a key player for both City and the national team, but now he wants to explore new opportunities.
There’s interest from clubs like Inter Milan and AC Milan, and even some Saudi Pro League teams. Guardiola doesn’t want to lose him, but City usually lets players pursue their dreams. If Walker does leave, City will need to find a solid right-back replacement.
Rico Lewis has been doing well, but Guardiola will want more competition. Interestingly, analytics show that Noussair Mazraoui from Manchester United is a perfect fit to replace Walker. He’s got a 95.8% similarity rating to Walker and was a bargain at £17 million.
Mazraoui has been one of the few bright spots for United this season, and it seems City might have missed a trick there. Other players similar to Walker include Josko Gvardiol and Giovanni Di Lorenzo, but Di Lorenzo’s age and Napoli’s title chase make him a less likely option.
City has been busy this month, already agreeing to sign defender Abdukodir Khusanov and in talks for Brazilian defender Vitor Reis and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush.
