Salford City received support from Manchester United for their FA Cup tie against Manchester City amid challenging weather conditions
Salford: This week, Manchester United opened up their old training ground, the Cliff, to help Salford City prepare for their FA Cup match against Manchester City. The weather has been a real pain, with snow and ice making it tough for Salford to train.
Salford usually trains at United’s Littleton Road facility, but the pitches were frozen solid. They even thought about asking City if they could use their pitch, but that idea didn’t go far since they had turned down a friendly match against City recently.
So, the Class of 92 stepped in to help. Ryan Giggs, who’s now the director of football at Salford, made sure they could use the indoor pitch at the Cliff. It’s a bit cramped, though. The indoor facility is only 50 yards wide and 80 yards long, which is much smaller than what they’ll face on Saturday.
Despite the size issues, Salford’s manager, Karl Robinson, was grateful for the chance to train there. They managed to get in another session at the Cliff on Thursday, and even Paul Scholes showed up to lend support. Robinson appreciates having Giggs around, especially since he’s been a big help during tough times.
Robinson shared how Giggs stepped up when his assistant manager faced a personal crisis. It’s been great having someone with Giggs’ experience around, especially when he’s managed big teams like Manchester United and Wales. Robinson joked about how sometimes he’d rather let Giggs explain things to the players instead of him.
It’s all about making the most of the situation, and Salford is thankful for the support from their old club as they gear up for a big match.
