Manchester: Exciting news! The city is gearing up to build its first lido in decades. If all goes well, Holt Town will transform from a quiet area into a lively new neighborhood.

Next week, top councillors are expected to give the green light for redevelopment. This 30-hectare spot is nestled between Ancoats and New Islington, and it’s currently home to some industrial buildings and a few houses.

With the Metrolink nearby and just two miles from the city center, the plan is to create around 4,500 new homes, including affordable options. Plus, there will be space for 1,500 jobs and a cultural hub, which will be the new home for Hope Mill Theatre.

And let’s not forget the green spaces! They’re planning 15 acres of parks, including a cool area called ‘confluence park’ by the River Medlock. It’s all about making the area more livable and enjoyable.

One of the most exciting parts? The lido! If it gets built, it’ll be the first outdoor swimming pool in Manchester since the 1980s. The last ones closed ages ago, so this is a big deal.

Council leader Bev Craig is super optimistic about Holt Town. She believes it has the potential to be a unique woodland town, focusing on green spaces and active travel. It’s all about creating a community that works for everyone.

They’re also looking to make it easier for people to get around without cars. There’s a plan for a ‘play street spine’ that connects schools and encourages walking and cycling.

Parking will be centralized in a building called ‘Mobility Mill,’ and the housing will include both high-rises and townhouses. It’s shaping up to be a fantastic addition to Manchester!
