Manchester Airport had its busiest December ever, with over 2 million passengers traveling through the hub during the holiday season
The busiest day was December 29, with nearly 89,000 people flying in and out. Most were probably heading off for New Year’s or coming back from Christmas trips.
Amsterdam was the top destination, with more than 110,000 passengers flying there. Dubai and Dublin followed closely behind.
During the month, 98% of passengers waited 15 minutes or less at security, and three-quarters waited under five minutes. That’s pretty impressive!
This year is going to be huge for the airport, too. They’re wrapping up a £1.3 billion transformation project. The new Terminal 2 is set to open fully later this year, and it’s going to be amazing.
The first phase opened in 2022, and the second phase will double its size. There will be over 25 new shops and restaurants, including a Wetherspoon’s pub and a Lego Store. Plus, they’re adding a new security hall and check-in desks.
Chris Woodroofe, the airport’s managing director, said December is always a busy time, and they’re proud to connect the North. He’s excited about the record-breaking numbers and the new terminal.
It sounds like Manchester Airport is gearing up for an epic year ahead!
