A Louisiana man has been sentenced to 32 years for his role in a 1985 murder case in Lone Tree, bringing some closure to the victim’s family.

Michael Shannel Jefferson was arrested in 2021, 36 years after the incident. It was a long time coming, but the police never gave up. Roger and his wife were home when an intruder broke in. The intruder forced Roger to tie up his wife, and she later found him shot.
The case took a turn when DNA from the crime scene matched Jefferson’s deceased parents. He eventually pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder, while other charges were dropped as part of a plea deal.
Roger’s daughter, Tamara, expressed her gratitude to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office for their relentless efforts. She feels a sense of closure but also a deep sadness for missing her father for nearly four decades.
Jefferson, on the other hand, claims he’s innocent and felt he had no choice but to take the plea deal. His attorney mentioned that Jefferson didn’t trust the justice system anymore and wanted to avoid risking a life sentence.
