A 19-year-old faces multiple charges after a double homicide during a drug deal in Albuquerque last summer

Laws is facing charges for murder, armed robbery, and tampering with evidence. The victims were Abdullah Abbas, 20, and Kylee Silva, 17. Right now, he’s being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center, and there’s a hearing coming up soon.
Police say they figured out who Laws was through social media and other databases. He claimed he shot Abbas in self-defense. The incident happened on June 4, when cops got a call about a homicide in a neighborhood near Candelaria and Juan Tabo NE.
When officers arrived, they found Silva dead with multiple gunshot wounds. Abbas was also shot and later died in the hospital. A witness reported hearing gunshots and saw Laws acting suspiciously near a vehicle.
Before the shooting, Abbas had sent a photo of a gun to Silva, hinting at a deal. Authorities believe Abbas was involved in selling drugs and firearms online. They think Laws might have stolen items from Abbas during the incident.
Later, police found a phone linked to Laws that had info about selling ammunition and Abbas’ gun. Laws told police there was supposed to be a deal that day, but he ended up shooting in self-defense after a confrontation over money.
Prosecutors are pushing to keep him locked up, saying his actions were dangerous and that he killed to sell drugs and guns. They argue there’s no way to ensure public safety if he’s released.
