Malcolm Ledgar, diagnosed with mesothelioma, chooses to celebrate life with family and friends while raising awareness about asbestos exposure.

Malcolm worked as an apprentice joiner in Cheshire back in the 70s, a time when asbestos was common and not well understood. He recalls working around it without any protective gear, completely unaware of the risks.
After losing a colleague to suspected asbestosis, he started getting regular check-ups. But life got busy, and he forgot to keep up with his X-rays. It wasn’t until he felt that annoying ache that he sought medical help again.
His diagnosis came in October 2024, and it hit him hard. But instead of dwelling on anger or blame, Malcolm is focused on celebrating life. He plans to retire from his leasing business and take a big family cruise with his wife, Nicola, and their kids and grandkids.
On February 1, he’s throwing a party to celebrate his life and raise funds for two charities that have supported him. He encourages others to listen to their bodies and get checked if something feels off.
Malcolm’s positive outlook is inspiring. He’s determined to make the most of his time, booking holidays and making plans, all while spreading awareness about the dangers of asbestos.
