Lucy Liu reaffirms her stance on Bill Murray’s unacceptable comments during filming, emphasizing self-protection and justice.

In a recent chat with *The Guardian*, Liu stood firm on her choice to defend herself. She mentioned that she didn’t think twice about it. “When I sense something is not right, I am going to protect myself,” she said. It’s just something you do when you feel there’s injustice, and she’s always felt that way.
Liu reflected on her journey, saying it’s never been easy for her or other Asian American actors. She emphasized that it’s a collective effort and she wouldn’t take all the credit for her career.
She first shared her experience with Murray on the *Asian Enough* podcast, explaining that they were rehearsing a scene that had been rewritten while he was absent. Liu didn’t have much to do with those changes, but Murray started throwing insults her way.
She didn’t go into detail about what he said, but she was shocked that he seemed to be directing his comments at her. “I was, like, ‘Wow, he seems like he’s looking straight at me,’” she recalled.
When she asked if he was talking to her, it became clear he was, and the conversation turned personal. Liu described his language as “inexcusable and unacceptable.”
“I stood up for myself, and I don’t regret it,” she stated. She believes that no matter your position, there’s no reason to belittle others.
After Liu spoke out, production on Aziz Ansari’s film *Being Mortal* was halted due to Murray’s alleged inappropriate behavior. He also left Wes Anderson’s *Asteroid City* under similar circumstances.
Additionally, it came to light that Murray paid a settlement of over $100,000 to a young woman who accused him of inappropriate actions. While he claimed he was just joking around, she described the encounter as “entirely sexual.”
