Westminster: So, there was this loud boom that had folks in the area scratching their heads on Tuesday night. Turns out, it was from a controlled detonation of some explosives found during a police search earlier that day.

The police were busy executing a search warrant at a home on East Road around 3:30 p.m. They found not just cash and drugs, but also an “unsafe amount” of explosive materials. Yikes!

The explosives were taken to a secure location, and the Bomb Squad was called in to handle things. According to Fire Chief Kyle Butterfield, they couldn’t just move the materials safely, so they had to make them inert instead.

Around 8:30 p.m., the Bomb Squad did their thing with a controlled detonation, and the police and fire departments were there to help out. They didn’t give a heads-up to residents beforehand because they wanted to keep things safe and avoid drawing a crowd.

After the boom, the fire department posted on Facebook to let everyone know it was all good and nothing to worry about. They explained that the explosion happened far from any buildings, but the sound traveled more at night, especially with the chilly air.

Along with the explosives, police found about 24 grams of cocaine, some gabapentin and suboxone pills, and over $7,000 in cash. A guy named Justin Wagner was arrested and is facing some serious charges.
