Los Angeles: The police have arrested four people for trying to start new fires while firefighters battle ongoing wildfires. These blazes have already claimed 25 lives, and the situation is dire.

The arrests happened outside the active wildfire zones, which is pretty alarming. The police shared that the suspects were trying to create more chaos while the community is already in distress.

One suspect, Jose Gerardo Escobar, faces serious charges for allegedly setting a fire in Azusa. He could end up with nine years in prison if convicted. Another person was caught using a lighter to start fires in North Hollywood, and they had an outstanding warrant for arson.

A third suspect was arrested in Van Nuys after lighting brush on fire, and firefighters were already on the scene when police arrived. The fourth person was taken into custody in West LA after witnesses saw them set a trash can ablaze.

Surveillance footage has been crucial in identifying these suspects, and the police are urging everyone to check their security cameras for any suspicious activity.

This all comes after a homeless man was caught using a flamethrower to ignite fires in Woodland Hills, which shows how serious the situation is. With Santa Ana winds expected to pick up, the threat of more fires looms large.

To combat looting and theft, the LAPD has imposed a curfew and called in the National Guard. They’ve ramped up patrols, placing around 750 officers in affected areas. So far, 14 arrests have been made for various crimes, including looting, as people take advantage of the empty homes left behind by evacuations.
