The president of a volunteer fire department is accused of stealing over $30,000, shocking the community and raising concerns.
Community members are really taken aback by this. They told Channel 11 they’re shocked to hear such allegations. It turns out Gaydos had access to the department’s bank account and started taking money back in December 2020.
The whole thing came to light when the board asked him to close the account, only to find it had just about $7 left in it. When confronted, Gaydos reportedly admitted to the theft.
One neighbor, Paul Kucera, expressed his disappointment, saying it’s a shame these things happen and sometimes slip through the cracks. Channel 11 tried reaching out to the department for comments but had no luck.
A woman at Gaydos’ home said neither she nor he had anything to say about the situation. Meanwhile, folks in the neighborhood are hoping this doesn’t shake the public’s trust in the fire department.
One woman mentioned how important the funds are for helping and saving people. Gaydos is set to appear in court on January 24.
