Liverpool’s Merseyside derby against Everton is rescheduled for February 12, amid a busy fixture list for the team
The Premier League made the announcement on Monday. With Liverpool juggling multiple competitions, finding a new date was tricky. Luckily, they managed to squeeze it in during a Champions League week, which they’re likely to avoid since they’re six points clear of ninth place.
The Premier League did mention that this date depends on Liverpool not being in the Champions League knockout phase. Given their perfect record so far, that seems pretty safe.
This derby will be aired on TNT Sports in the UK. It falls right between Liverpool’s FA Cup match against Plymouth Argyle on February 9 and their home game against Wolverhampton on February 16. It also means Liverpool will have seven weeks of midweek matches in a row.
This match is particularly special as it will be the last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park before Everton moves to their new stadium. Plus, it’s got extra buzz with David Moyes returning to the club after nearly 12 years since his first stint as manager.
Moyes took over after Sean Dyche’s tough run, with Everton sitting just above the relegation zone in 16th place. In their last meeting, Everton won 2-0, which was a big hit to Liverpool’s title hopes. Before that, Liverpool hadn’t lost to Everton away since 2010. It’s shaping up to be an exciting match!
