Liverpool has turned down an $85 million offer for Darwin Nunez as they set a higher asking price for the striker
Nunez hasn’t really wowed the new head coach, Arne Slot, since he took over from Jurgen Klopp. The Uruguayan has been a bit hit-or-miss, and while fans like him, he hasn’t developed as quickly as the club hoped.
Al-Hilal is eager to snag Nunez for the Saudi Pro League, especially as they look for a replacement for Neymar, who might be leaving soon. Liverpool turned down this first offer but might consider selling him in January if the right deal comes along.
They’re reportedly looking for around $103 million for Nunez but might settle for $91.5 million if he’s ready to move. His connection with the fans is starting to fade, and Slot doesn’t seem to trust him much either.
Nunez has potential and often gets into good spots, but he’s missing that killer instinct that top strikers have. Slot has shown he prefers Diogo Jota as his main striker, and even when Jota was out, he picked Luis Diaz over Nunez.
In December, Slot mentioned that Nunez might be trying too hard, which is affecting his game. He acknowledged Nunez’s work rate but noted that he hasn’t scored as many goals as expected.
Slot is supportive but hasn’t fully committed to him yet. He’s been positive about Nunez’s contributions, but it seems like the pressure from fans might be getting to him.
Robbie Fowler, a former Liverpool player, isn’t convinced about Nunez either. After a recent match where Nunez didn’t score, Fowler expressed doubts about his future at the club.
With Nunez now third in the striker lineup, Liverpool is waiting to see how Al-Hilal reacts and if other Saudi clubs will jump into the bidding.
