Chicago: LIV Golf just made a big move by naming Scott O’Neil as its new CEO, taking over from Greg Norman, who’s been at the helm since 2021. O’Neil’s got a solid background in sports and entertainment, so he’s expected to push the league forward.

In a statement, LIV Golf said O’Neil will focus on the league’s strategic vision and global growth. Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the board chairman, praised O’Neil for his passion and vision, saying he’s the right person to lead the team and players.

Norman, a two-time major winner, was thanked for his role in launching and growing LIV Golf. He was the obvious choice when they started the league, and his contributions have been key to its success.

O’Neil, who has over 25 years of experience, previously led Merlin Entertainments and Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment. He noted that LIV Golf has made impressive strides in just three years, bringing fresh energy and innovation to the game.

Since its launch, LIV Golf has shaken up the golf scene, attracting top players from the PGA Tour with big payouts, which has created quite a divide in the sport. Talks between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf about unifying professional golf are still ongoing, but no deal has been reached yet.
