The judge has agreed to let her undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Her lawyers are saying they want to argue that she wasn’t in her right mind when it happened. They’re planning to use an insanity defense.
Clancy’s lawyer mentioned that she was dealing with severe postpartum depression and was overmedicated at the time. It’s a tough situation, and in Massachusetts, once the insanity defense is raised, it’s up to the prosecution to prove otherwise.
In January 2023, she allegedly killed her kids, Cora, Dawson, and Callan, while her husband was out for a short errand. Afterward, she tried to take her own life by jumping out of a window, which left her paralyzed.
Her husband, Patrick, has expressed that he’s not angry with her. He believes she was unwell and not herself during that time. It’s a complex and tragic story that’s still unfolding.
Her trial was originally set for December 2025 but has now been pushed to January 2026. She’s facing three counts of first-degree murder and has pleaded not guilty.
