Lee Greenwood sang his famous anthem at Donald Trump’s inauguration, marking a significant moment in the ceremony.
Washington D.C.: Lee Greenwood was back in the spotlight as he performed at Donald Trump’s inauguration. The 82-year-old country singer belted out his iconic song “God Bless the U.S.A” in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda.
He looked sharp in a navy suit and a blue tie, proudly sporting a USA flag pin. It was a big moment, especially since he sang right before Trump took the oath of office as the 47th president.
After his performance, Greenwood was seen chatting with Senator Mitch McConnell. He wasn’t the only artist there; Carrie Underwood and opera singer Christopher Macchio also performed at the event.
Just the day before, Greenwood had joined Trump at a rally in D.C., along with other stars like Kid Rock and Billy Ray Cyrus. It was a busy weekend for him!
Fun fact: Greenwood wrote “God Bless the U.S.A.” in just 30 minutes back in 1983. This was his third time performing at a presidential inauguration, having sung for Trump in 2017 and George H.W. Bush in 1989.
Trump personally invited Greenwood to perform after they met at Mar-a-Lago. Greenwood also recalled a memorable moment from a rally in Butler, PA, where he introduced Trump after a close call with danger.
He even defended Carrie Underwood against critics who were upset about her performance, saying people should just appreciate the music and support the president.
