Albuquerque: So, there’s this lawyer named Parrish Collins who’s been busy filing lawsuits for inmates. He’s claiming that New Mexico’s prison health system is seriously dropping the ball. Now, he’s asking a court to make the General Services Department cough up records about the costs of these lawsuits.

Collins says the state is breaking the law by not giving him the records he requested back in June. They told him it was too much work and needed more time. But then they asked for even more time in September, and when they finally sent some records in October, it wasn’t everything he wanted.

He’s really frustrated and claims they didn’t follow the rules. He wants the court to force them to release the rest of the records and is even asking for $100 a day for every day they don’t comply.

The General Services Department hasn’t said anything about this yet. Collins has a history of suing the state’s prison medical providers, alleging they’ve let serious infections go untreated, causing a lot of pain and even death for some inmates.

He’s taken on both past and current medical providers, and getting records about settlements has been a real hassle. These companies often say they don’t have to share the info, even though courts have ruled that they should. It’s a messy situation for sure.
