Officers found a woman’s body in a locked freezer after a wellness check revealed a shocking crime scene
They called a locksmith, and the door was opened by Daniel Roush, a transgender woman who goes by Jazzlynn. Roush claimed she was housesitting for Gilbertson and insisted that Gilbertson wasn’t home.
Eventually, Roush and her wife, Gina Lopez, let the officers in. They discovered a locked freezer covered with clothes in a utility room. When they got it open, one officer noted, “there’s something in there.” Another officer confirmed, “Yeah, there’s a person in here.”
Gilbertson was found “folded up” inside the freezer, and it seemed she had been there for a while. Roush was identified as a man by the police, even though she legally changed her name in 2022.
Roush had been invited to stay with Gilbertson temporarily, but things turned sour when Gilbertson got upset about Roush’s living habits. She tried to kick Roush out and even changed the locks.
Messages revealed Gilbertson’s attempts to gently ask Roush to leave, saying she couldn’t live with anyone anymore. Roush is now charged with second-degree murder, claiming she found Gilbertson slumped over and decided to put her in the freezer.
Roush suggested Gilbertson might have overdosed, but friends said she never used drugs. Prosecutors allege Roush force-fed Gilbertson a lethal dose of fentanyl, which is about 200 times the amount that could kill someone. Gilbertson is believed to have died around the time she tried to evict Roush. Roush’s wife, Lopez, faces drug charges but is not charged with murder.
