Kobbie Mainoo is reportedly unhappy with Manchester United’s contract offer as Chelsea shows interest in the young midfielder’s future
Stockport: So, Kobbie Mainoo isn’t too thrilled with the contract offer from Manchester United. He’s got some Chelsea buzz swirling around him, and it’s making things a bit tense.
Mainoo, just 19, is tied to United until 2027, with an option for another year. But with Chelsea sniffing around, it’s clear he’s weighing his options. United insists they don’t want to push him out, though.
This season has been a bit rough for him and a few other players like Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund. They were seen as key players, but things haven’t gone smoothly.
He had a tough time with a hamstring injury that kept him out for eight weeks. Now, he’s only started five out of the twelve games under coach Ruben Amorim.
But hey, he did make a comeback in that intense 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield. Still, United’s financial situation might force them to consider selling some academy talents.
Academy players are a solid profit source, and that’s why they sold Scott McTominay to Napoli. They’ve also let go of other young talents like Mason Greenwood and Hannibal Mejbri.
Former sporting director Dan Ashworth mentioned that the days of players sticking with one club for life are fading. It’s just how the game is shifting.
Mainoo signed his current deal back in February 2023 when he was just 17. Since then, he’s really made a name for himself, even scoring the winner in the FA Cup final against Manchester City.
He’s also been a part of England’s journey to the European Championship final. Plus, he’s got a sponsorship deal with Nike, which he renewed recently.
