Manchester United may consider selling young talents Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho amid financial pressures
Manchester: So, it looks like Manchester United is keeping their options open when it comes to selling some of their young stars, Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho. They’re not saying a firm no to offers, which is kind of interesting.
After selling Scott McTominay to Napoli, they might be thinking about similar moves for Mainoo and Garnacho. It seems like they’re trying to keep things balanced financially, especially with those Profit and Sustainability rules hanging over them.
According to The Athletic, INEOS isn’t actively shopping these guys around, but they’d listen if a club comes in with a decent offer. It’s all about the right price, you know?
And speaking of futures, Marcus Rashford’s situation is also a bit shaky. If he gets sold in January, it would count as pure profit for the club, which is something they’re probably considering. Teams like Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan are reportedly interested.
Now, about Mainoo—Chelsea is keeping an eye on his contract talks. Word is he’s not too happy with what United has offered him. He’s tied down until 2027, but they could extend it if they want. Garnacho, on the other hand, signed a new deal last year that keeps him around until June 2028, and he’s been doing pretty well with eight goals this season.
But it’s not all smooth sailing. Garnacho had a bit of a rough patch recently, getting dropped from the team due to attitude issues. He only played 18 minutes in that intense 2-2 draw against Liverpool.
Last summer, it seemed like Mainoo, Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, and Andre Onana were untouchable, but things have changed after a not-so-great 2024/25 season. Erik ten Hag got the boot, costing the club a hefty £13.5 million, and they also had to let go of former sporting director Dan Ashworth, which set them back another £2-3 million.
