Kirk Herbstreit couldn’t hold back tears after Ohio State’s national championship victory over Notre Dame, sharing his pride for the team.
During the postgame show at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, he got emotional and even wiped away some tears. When Scott Van Pelt asked him about the game, he said, “Don’t start with me. I’m a little emotional.” You could tell he was just so proud of the team.
Herbstreit, who played for Ohio State back in the day, mentioned how much this team had to overcome to get to this point. His son, Zak, is on the team too, which made it even more special for him.
The Buckeyes had a strong first half, scoring touchdowns on all three of their drives. They really took control of the game after Notre Dame’s long opening drive. Even when the Fighting Irish tried to make a comeback, Ohio State held them off.
As the celebration kicked off, Herbstreit praised head coach Ryan Day for handling the pressure of coaching at such a high level. He knows how tough it can be, especially after a couple of tough losses earlier in the season. It was a moment of pure joy for everyone involved.
