This week, Greater Manchester sees major plans for student housing and wind farms

Salford: Big changes are coming! A new student housing block and a massive wind farm are on the table this week. Exciting stuff, right?
In Salford, there’s a plan for a 400-student home block with a gym and lounge. They want to knock down the old Cumberland House on Lissadel Street to make way for this ten-storey building.
Meanwhile, over in Rochdale, they’re looking at a huge 100 MW wind farm. The developers are chatting with the council to get their thoughts before moving forward.
And guess what? The town hall will check out the environmental impacts before they go for full planning permission.
In Bolton, plans to replace a golf driving range with bungalows got shot down. The council said it would harm the green belt, so that’s a no-go.
Bury is also in the mix with a new Metrolink stop entrance planned at Festival Gardens. They’ll be adding ramps and steps, but it means cutting down some trees.
In Manchester, a new church is on the way in Blackley. The World Mission Agency wants to build a big Winners Chapel on a former convent site, aiming for a space for 1,500 people.
Rochdale is buzzing about the Scout Moor II wind farm, which could be the largest onshore wind farm in England. They’re getting feedback from the council before moving ahead.
Heywood is set to get a revamped civic square, making it a cool spot for events and relaxation. The council is all in on this transformation.
Back in Salford, the new student block is designed to be a lively place with shared spaces and quiet areas. It’s close to Salford University, making it super convenient.
They’re also releasing some green belt land for high-end homes in Salford, with plans for 300 new houses. The council is pushing to build more homes in the area.
In Denton, there’s a proposal for a new apartment block on an old industrial site, with nine new apartments planned.
Lastly, Wigan is seeing a telecoms firm wanting to put up a 50ft mast in Leigh. They don’t need planning approval for that height, so it’s likely to go ahead.
