WICHITA: The Kansas Department of Education just announced that six amazing teachers from the state have snagged the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. How cool is that?

These winners were chosen by a panel of top-notch scientists, mathematicians, and educators after a thorough selection process at the state level. This award has been around since 1983, and it’s a big deal—like the highest honor you can get from the U.S. government for teaching.

So, who are these standout educators? Here’s the list: Erica Huggard from Emporia High School for 7-12 Science in 2021, Elizabeth Self from Kepley Middle School for 7-12 Math in 2021, Todd Flory from Wheatland Elementary for K-6 Science in 2022, Angela Gray from Atchison Elementary for K-6 Math in 2022, Robin Anderson from Andover Middle School for 7-12 Math in 2023, and Jennifer Hendrix from Dodge City High School for 7-12 Science in 2023.

Each of these fantastic teachers gets a certificate signed by the president and a sweet $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation. What a great way to celebrate their hard work!
