A jury found Timothy Morgenstern guilty of sexually assaulting a minor he coached

Morgenstern, just 24 and from Apple Valley, faced serious charges, including third-degree criminal sexual conduct and using minors in a sexual performance. The incidents reportedly took place in 2022, and he was fired from the Rochester Police Department shortly after the allegations surfaced.
The jury returned with their verdict after nine hours of discussion. The court then set conditions for Morgenstern’s release, including a 300-foot distance from the victim’s home. A sentencing hearing is set for April 16, where he could face significant prison time and hefty fines.
During the trial, the prosecution presented several witnesses, including the victim and law enforcement officials. The defense, however, argued that there was no solid evidence to support the claims, pointing out the lack of digital communication records.
The case highlighted how Morgenstern allegedly groomed the girl over several months, using Snapchat to communicate and instructing her to delete their messages. The evidence found on his devices supported the victim’s account, but Morgenstern maintained his innocence throughout the investigation.
