Jurgen Klopp addressed the future of Virgil van Dijk and other Liverpool stars amid ongoing contract discussions during a recent press conference.
He was asked about Virgil van Dijk and whether he might end up in the MLS. Klopp joked that Van Dijk would probably want to play for Liverpool for five more years and then maybe move to New York when he’s older. He thinks Van Dijk might not fully appreciate U.S. soccer yet, but he’s open to it.
Klopp also touched on Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who are both in contract talks. He expressed a desire to keep Salah but mentioned the financial challenges. As for Trent, Klopp seemed a bit frustrated with the ongoing discussions about his defending skills, saying it’s been blown out of proportion.
He pointed out that if people praised Trent as much when he plays well as they criticize him when he doesn’t, it would be a much better situation.
Liverpool.com noted that a move to the MLS could make sense for Van Dijk later in his career. The league offers a decent level of play and a nice lifestyle for players looking for a change. The same could apply to Salah and Alexander-Arnold down the line. It’s definitely something to keep an eye on!
