Joy Behar challenges Carrie Underwood’s patriotism after her inauguration performance for Trump, sparking a lively debate on The View.
New York: So, Joy Behar is really questioning Carrie Underwood’s love for America. It all went down on The View when Joy found out Carrie would sing “America the Beautiful” at Trump’s inauguration.
Joy was pretty vocal about it, saying she wouldn’t perform for Trump because she doesn’t want to normalize him. She asked how you can say you love your country while supporting someone she sees as a convicted felon who could harm the nation.
Then Alyssa Farah Griffin, who just voted for a Democrat for the first time, jumped in to defend Trump supporters. She mentioned that many people in her family voted for Trump because they love the country, and their reasons are varied.
Joy kind of backed off a bit, saying she believes in free speech and wouldn’t tell anyone not to perform. But she made it clear that she personally wouldn’t do it.
Griffin thought Carrie’s choice was a smart business move. With 75 million Trump voters out there, she figured Carrie could become a big deal in the MAGA crowd and probably make a lot of money.
In light of the backlash Carrie’s been facing, Griffin also criticized cancel culture, saying it’s not cool to try to ruin someone’s career just because you disagree with their politics. Instead, she suggested people should just not support her music if they have a problem.
