José Andrés’s restaurant, the Bazaar, plans to remain at the Old Post Office despite potential changes in hotel management.

But don’t worry! The José Andrés Group has made it clear they’re not going anywhere. They said they’re committed to staying put, no matter who owns the hotel. Andrés is also busy helping out with his humanitarian work, feeding people affected by the fires in California.
Back in 2014, Andrés had plans to open a restaurant in the original Trump hotel. But when Trump made those controversial comments about Mexican immigrants, he pulled out, leading to some high-profile lawsuits. Andrés felt it was impossible to move forward, especially since a lot of his team and guests are Hispanic. They eventually settled those lawsuits in 2017.
The space that was supposed to be his restaurant ended up being a steakhouse that catered to Trump’s supporters. Meanwhile, Andrés took jabs at Trump on social media. When the Trump hotel closed and became the Waldorf Astoria, it felt like a win for him. He finally opened the Bazaar in 2023, fulfilling a dream he had for decades to operate in that historic building.
Andrés seemed pretty optimistic after Trump’s recent election win, saying the U.S. would be fine. He also downplayed Trump’s threats about deporting immigrants, pointing out that the country needs them to keep things running smoothly, including his own businesses.
Oh, and just so you know, Sushi Nakazawa, which is also in the Waldorf Astoria, isn’t going anywhere either. So, it looks like the Old Post Office will keep buzzing with activity!
