John Ontjes Achieves 500th Win Milestone at Hutchinson Basketball

HUTCHINSON: The Hutchinson women’s basketball team had a big celebration recently. Head coach John Ontjes hit a major milestone with his 500th career win. They secured this achievement after beating Seward County 52-40, which also extended their winning streak to 54 games.

The atmosphere was electric as Ontjes reflected on this moment. He mentioned that reaching this point was something he never really thought would happen. He credited his success to the talented players, supportive assistant coaches, and the administration backing him.

Hutchinson Athletic Director Josh Gooch expressed his pride, saying it’s not just about the wins but the consistent effort Ontjes puts in every day. Ontjes took a moment to think back on his 18 seasons at Hutchinson and why he started coaching there. He believed it could become a special program, and he feels they do things the right way.
