Jason Oppenheim claims some LA landlords are exploiting wildfire victims by hiking rents unfairly

During an interview on BBC One, he pointed out that California has laws against price gouging, which he claims are being ignored. He emphasized that it’s just wrong to exploit people during a disaster.
Oppenheim shared a story about a landlord who raised the rent from $13,000 to $23,000 after the wildfires hit. His client even offered to pay $20,000 upfront, but the landlord still refused.
He mentioned that landlords can’t charge more than 10% above their usual rates after a disaster. Oppenheim described the situation in LA as heartbreaking, with many homes lost and people in tears.
To help, he announced that his firm, The Oppenheim Group, will assist those displaced by the fires for free. He believes it’s their duty to support the community during this tough time.
The wildfires have devastated over 20,000 acres, and many celebrities have also lost their homes. The situation is dire, with a rising death toll and many still missing. Stars are using social media to rally support and raise awareness for those affected.
