HOLLAND: The Sentinel is kicking off 2025 with a weekly roundup of what’s happening in local municipal meetings. This is a great chance for you to connect with your local officials about the issues that matter most to you.

Every Friday, we’ll share the biggest topics coming up for the week ahead. Just a heads up, if an agenda isn’t posted, it won’t be included in our roundup. While municipalities in Michigan don’t have to provide an agenda ahead of time, they do need to give notice. So, make sure to check your local municipality’s website for the latest updates.

Here’s what’s on the agenda for January 13-17:

In Ottawa County, there’s a special Board of Commissioners meeting on January 14 at 8 a.m. at the Fillmore Street Complex. They’ll be discussing the rules of the Ottawa County Board. You can catch it live on YouTube under @miOttawa.

Also on January 14, the Planning and Policy Committee will meet at 9 a.m. at the same location. They’re expected to talk about changes to the county’s invocation policy, but no agenda is available yet.

In Allegan County, the Commission on Aging will meet on January 15 at 9 a.m. to discuss senior health needs, which will help with a Community Health Needs Assessment. You can join virtually if you call in or use Zoom.

Later that day, the Economic Development Commission will meet at 2 p.m. at the Allegan District Library to welcome a new member and discuss some updates.

In Holland, the Planning Commission will gather on January 14 at 5 p.m. at City Hall. They’ll be looking at a rezoning request for a bike park and recreation area.

Saugatuck has a City Council meeting on January 13 at 6:30 p.m. and a Planning Commission meeting on January 16 at the same time.

If you’re in Zeeland, the Planning Commission will meet on January 14 at 7 p.m. to review a home-based business request.

And don’t forget about Laketown Township, which will hold its Board of Trustees meeting on January 15 at 6 p.m. They’ll be discussing a few important topics, including a controversial rezoning request.

So, mark your calendars and get involved! It’s a great way to stay informed and have your voice heard.
