Discover a charming getaway in York, just a short trip from Greater Manchester

Still, it’s easy to see why people think of magical stories here. The streets are beautiful, filled with history, cozy pubs, and great shops. You can’t help but feel enchanted. Even some American tourists we met were blown away by how pretty it is.
Outside York Minster, which is stunning and dates back to 1220, there’s a nice spot to just chill for a moment. Tourists are everywhere, snapping pics with their iPhones, and there’s even a Paddington Bear statue that’s a hit with visitors. It’s funny to see kids walk right past it, totally uninterested.
After all that exploring, we found a lovely place to relax called Judge’s Lodging, right near the Museum Gardens. It has a cool beer garden that’s covered, so you can enjoy a drink even in winter. It feels like a cozy ski lodge with fairy lights and heaters—perfect for a chilly January day.
When we got to our room, a staff member insisted on carrying our bags up the grand staircase. I tried to decline, but they were so friendly, saying, “You are my guest!” Our room had a view of a charming street leading to Betty’s Café, where there was a long queue outside.
The beds were super comfy, and the bath was huge! But the real highlight was the food and the warm service. Breakfast was a treat with a massive mug of tea and a hearty fry-up, plus fresh pastries. After that, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to explore or just nap.
But we pushed on and hit the town. York really shines in winter, with guides dressed in historical outfits and a ghost-themed shop that had a huge line outside. There’s so much to see and do!
As the day wrapped up, we ended it perfectly with some sticky toffee pudding, chatting outside in the cold while the heaters kept us warm. Honestly, I could spend the rest of winter here.
