Tom Homan has agreed to lease Texas ranchland for federal border security operations, as announced by the Texas General Land Office.
Texas: The Texas General Land Office has revealed that Tom Homan, the incoming border czar, has verbally agreed to lease some ranchland for border security. This land is in rural Texas and will be used for federal operations.
Last month, Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham announced that the state purchased 1,402 acres in Starr County. She quickly granted an easement for a border wall to be built on the property.
Buckingham also reached out to President-elect Trump, offering the ranchland for deportation facilities. Trump had promised to kick off deportation efforts right away if he won a second term.
In a statement, Buckingham expressed her support for Trump’s plans, emphasizing the need to protect American families through this facility for processing and detaining criminals.
Recently, the Texas GLO tweeted that Homan accepted the offer to lease the land for border security. During a taping of the Dr. Phil show, Homan mentioned he was already drafting a plan for the land’s use.
He noted that having this land from Texas saves the government time and money, as acquiring land can be a slow and costly process.
While Homan discussed moving people in and out of the facility, he didn’t provide details on what would be built or when it would start operating.
When NBC 5 inquired about the lease terms, the Texas GLO stated that there’s no written agreement yet. Homan’s acceptance was verbal during the Dr. Phil show.
After winning his second election, Trump nominated Homan as the next border czar. This role doesn’t require Senate confirmation, although some lawmakers have called for it.
