Miami: So, the Hurricanes have found their new defensive coordinator! Corey Hetherman, who was with Minnesota, is reportedly taking the job.

He’s stepping in for Lance Guidry, who got the boot back in December. Hetherman had just one season at Minnesota, but wow, did he make an impact!

His defense was among the best in the country. They ranked ninth for points allowed and fifth for yards allowed. Pretty impressive, right?

Plus, they had a solid rush and pass defense. Pro Football Focus even gave them a decent grade among FBS schools.

Interestingly, Hetherman had just signed a nice extension at Minnesota, making over a million a year. But Miami is ready to pay a buy-out to bring him on board.

Before Minnesota, he was coaching linebackers at Rutgers under Greg Schiano, who also has ties to Miami’s coach, Mario Cristobal.

Hetherman’s got a solid background, having been a defensive coordinator at James Madison and Maine too. He’s got experience all around.

Now, he’ll get to shake things up a bit at Miami. With some staff changes happening, like the defensive line coach leaving for Arizona, he’ll have some room to make his mark.
