The prosecutor for Hunter Biden argues that President Biden’s remarks harm the integrity of the justice system
Washington: So, the special counsel, David Weiss, who went after Hunter Biden, just dropped a report. He’s not too happy with President Biden’s comments about the cases. Weiss called the president’s remarks “gratuitous and wrong.”
He’s been looking into Hunter for a while now, mainly for lying about his drug use when buying a gun and for dodging $1.4 million in taxes. Hunter got pardoned by his dad in December, even after Joe said he wouldn’t do that.
In his report, Weiss pushed back hard against Joe’s claims that politics messed with the cases. He said those comments hurt the justice system and made people lose trust in it.
Weiss had to write this report because that’s what special counsels do when they finish their investigations. He defended the charges against Hunter, who was found guilty on gun charges and later pleaded guilty to tax issues.
Things got messy when a plea deal fell apart in 2023, leading to serious charges instead. Hunter’s been under a microscope for years, especially from Republicans, over his business dealings abroad.
His team claims that political pressure made Weiss go for indictments instead of sticking with the plea deal, which they say was unusual for these types of cases.
Weiss has been on this case since he was appointed by Trump and continued under Biden. He made it clear: he prosecuted Hunter because he broke the law.
