Stockport: A developer is looking to add more than 500 new homes in Woodford Garden Village. Harrow Estates is behind this big project, which will cover 35 hectares of land in Stockport’s green belt.

The new homes will include a mix of one and two-bedroom apartments, plus houses with three, four, and five bedrooms. About half of these homes will be affordable, offering options for social rent and ownership.

There are plans for 15 self-build plots and 75 extra care homes for older folks, all aimed at being affordable. Plus, nearly half of the area will be set aside for green spaces, making it a nice spot for everyone.

Woodford Garden Village got its first planning permission back in 2015, and since then, over 600 homes have popped up where the old Woodford Aerodrome used to be, along with a pub and a primary school.

They’re also thinking about expanding the local primary school to accommodate more kids. A community hub is in the works too, right next to the Avro Heritage Museum, which will have a café and other local facilities.

To encourage walking and biking, there will be a mobility hub in the new square, offering bike storage and rental services. This should help ease traffic issues that residents have been facing on Old Hall Lane.

Tim Noden, the planning director at Harrow Estates, mentioned that these new homes are crucial for meeting the high housing demand in the area. He emphasized that the design focuses on nature, with lots of open space and plans for biodiversity improvements.

Overall, this development aims to create a vibrant community while addressing housing needs in Stockport.
