A Honolulu officer faces domestic violence charges after allegedly choking a woman during a dispute at their home
The incident happened at their home in Ewa Beach, and the woman went to the hospital for treatment. Medical staff there called the police after seeing her injuries.
Massie was arrested around 11:44 p.m. and is currently out on bail. He hasn’t been formally charged yet. The Honolulu Police Department is looking into the situation, and Massie is on restricted duty while they investigate.
Honolulu Police Chief Arthur Logan emphasized that they take domestic violence claims seriously. He mentioned that officers involved in such cases face both criminal and administrative investigations, which could lead to disciplinary actions, including termination.
Robert Cavaco, a lieutenant with HPD, spoke out against domestic violence but also stressed that the officer deserves due process. He believes the investigation should be fair and thorough.
According to Hawaii law, choking someone during a domestic dispute is considered a felony. Massie has been with the police department for five years and has had issues in the past, including a suspension for not responding properly to a call about an intruder.
HPD shared news of his arrest on social media, stating that investigations are underway and that he will be on restrictive duty during this time.
