Authorities report a high-risk sex offender is living in Grand Forks, raising safety concerns for the community.

Staples has a troubling history. He was convicted of sexual abuse in 2014 for attacking an unconscious woman. Then, in 2017, he was convicted for abusing a 6-year-old girl.
Due to his past, the state has labeled him as a high-risk offender, meaning he must register for life. The police keep track of offenders like him through a program that checks in on them regularly.
In Grand Forks, there are 120 registered offenders, with eight classified as high risk. These individuals are checked at least once a month. If they’re homeless, they need to report to the police every three days.
If you want to know more about registered offenders, you can request information from the police department. Just keep in mind that details about juvenile offenders are often restricted.
For more info on offenders, you can visit the North Dakota sex offender registry online. If you have questions or know of someone who hasn’t registered, reach out to Cpl. Mike Munkeby at the police department.
