Honolulu: The end of the 2024 legislative season was marked by a heartfelt moment as hands were held during the singing of “Hawaii Aloha” at the State Capitol. It was a touching way to wrap up the session.

Now, as the 2025 legislative session approaches, leaders from both the House and Senate are expressing a strong commitment to work together. House Speaker Nadine Nakamura highlighted this collaboration as a significant achievement, emphasizing the shared values between the 42 House Democrats and nine Republicans.

House Minority Leader Lauren Matsumoto echoed this sentiment, noting that it’s the first time both parties have agreed on common values. She believes this is a big step toward a more cooperative legislative process.

On the Senate side, Majority Leader Dru Mamo Kanuha assured that the 22 Senate Democrats are also ready to collaborate with their Republican counterparts. He called this session a call to action, aiming for a brighter future for all residents of Hawaii.

While both chambers have their priorities, they include important issues like housing, homelessness, and economic development. The Senate is also focusing on education and environmental sustainability. It looks like they’re gearing up for a busy and productive session ahead!
