Gaza: US Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently pointed out that Hamas has managed to recruit nearly as many new fighters as it has lost since the war began. He made these remarks during a conference in Washington, urging Israel to consider a diplomatic resolution to the ongoing conflict.

Blinken emphasized that the fighting in Gaza is unlikely to end if Israel continues its current military strategy. He noted that every time Israel pulls back after military operations, Hamas militants regroup, filling the void left behind.

He stressed that a military campaign alone won’t defeat Hamas. Without a clear plan for the future of the Palestinians, groups like Hamas will continue to thrive. Blinken called for a cease-fire and a deal to free hostages, suggesting that Israel should work with the Palestinian Authority to establish a new government in Gaza.

The war has dragged on for 15 months, with no clear end in sight. Blinken mentioned that around 97 hostages are still being held, and talks are ongoing to secure their release. He expressed optimism about reaching a cease-fire agreement soon, possibly before the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump.
