Governor Kelly is set to address key issues in her upcoming State of the State speech, focusing on Medicaid expansion and economic growth.

She’s got some big plans for the 2025 session, especially pushing for Medicaid expansion in Kansas. Kelly mentioned she’s ready with her seventh proposal on this front.
Kansas is one of the few states still holding out on expanding Medicaid. With Republicans holding a supermajority in both the House and Senate, they’re likely to push back against her efforts again this year.
Republican House Speaker Dan Hawkins expects a showdown, saying, “The governor is going to push for it, guarantee it she will, I expect her to.”
Besides Medicaid, Kelly is also focused on boosting the state’s economy. She’ll deliver her address at 6:30 p.m. on January 15.
Kelly emphasized the importance of economic development, noting the record number of jobs and funds coming into the state. She believes this growth is crucial for fully funding schools, transportation, and expanding broadband access.
