Glenn Close shares how ‘Fatal Attraction’ changed perceptions of her talent and femininity
New York City: Glenn Close is a legend, and she’s not letting anyone forget it. The 77-year-old actress opened up about her long career, starting with her debut in “The World According to Garp” back in 1982.
She got an Oscar nod right away, but it was “Fatal Attraction” that really changed the game for her. Close said it was the first time people saw her as sexy, which was a big deal for her.
In the 1987 thriller, she played Alex, a woman who becomes obsessed after being jilted by a married man. Despite her success, Close has often felt like an outsider in Hollywood. She admitted that she still feels that way sometimes.
But that feeling doesn’t stop her. Close believes there are still new things to discover in her craft. She reminisced about her early theater days in New York with Meryl Streep, calling it thrilling and magical.
She recalled the excitement of auditions, feeling like the streets were “paved with gold.” Close also talked about her role in “The Big Chill,” where she learned how powerful thoughts can be on film.
Fans might not know she reunited with Robin Williams in “Hook,” where she played a pirate. She joked about how people didn’t recognize her in the role.
Now, she’s back in action with Jamie Foxx and Cameron Diaz in a Netflix comedy. Close found the script amusing and felt it was a nod to classic spy movies.
