TransPennine Express offers a free online course for those interested in rail careers, featuring hands-on activities and essential skills.

You’ll get a behind-the-scenes peek at how timetables are made, what it takes to keep trains running smoothly, and the day-to-day of jobs like station assistant or onboard catering.
The course has eight modules packed with hands-on activities and key employability skills like communication and teamwork. Plus, you can work through the modules at your own pace, which is pretty cool.
Nicola Buckley, TPE’s people director, mentioned that this course is perfect whether you’re just starting out, thinking about a career change, or just curious about the railway.
It’s designed to help you gain transferable skills that boost your confidence when applying for jobs, whether at TPE or elsewhere in the rail industry. TPE is the fastest-growing rail operator in the UK, and they’re eager to create job opportunities in the communities they serve.
The program is open to anyone aged 13 and up and will run until May 5, 2025. Plus, you’ll get a certificate of completion, which is great for your CV or UCAS applications.
