McKinney: The Collin County Sheriff’s Office has busted a big operation selling fake sports memorabilia. They found a whole room full of counterfeit items and arrested two people.

The haul included autographed helmets, jerseys, footballs, and boxing gloves. This all came to light during an ongoing investigation into online sales of phony sports gear.

On Wednesday, investigators executed a search warrant at a home on Saint Michael Drive in McKinney. They found tons of evidence, including fake certificates of authenticity and thousands of items falsely claimed to be real.

Details about the timing and specifics of the operation haven’t been shared yet. The two arrested, Wendell Gidden-Rogers and Lisa Skolnick, face serious charges of trademark counterfeiting, which is a third-degree felony.

Their lawyers’ names weren’t available in the jail records. NBC 5 showed the seized items to Kyle Robertson, who runs the Dallas Card Show in Allen. He was shocked by the amount of counterfeit stuff.

Robertson mentioned that spotting fakes starts with knowing what to look for, like missing authentication and suspiciously low prices. He noted that valuable autographs, like those from Patrick Mahomes, can go for around $1,000.

At his card shows, major authentication services are present to help buyers protect their investments and stay informed.
