Las Vegas: A former girlfriend of Matthew Livelsberger, the man linked to a Cybertruck explosion, opened up about their relationship. Alicia Arritt said his 2019 deployment to Afghanistan really took a toll on him.

Livelsberger, 37, a Green Beret, tragically shot himself during the explosion, which injured seven people. Arritt mentioned that he had brain injuries before his deployment but managed to cope until then. After returning, he became withdrawn and ashamed, often messaging her about his depression.

A note from Livelsberger revealed his guilt over lives lost during his service. He described the explosion as a “wake-up call,” expressing a need to relieve himself of the burden he carried. Authorities believe he suffered from PTSD and personal issues, labeling the incident a tragic case of suicide.

Arritt met Livelsberger in 2018 through Tinder. She recalled their first date, where they connected deeply. He was kind to her son and shared interests in sports and woodworking. However, during their time together, he faced numerous medical and mental health challenges, including severe headaches and flashbacks.

Despite Arritt’s encouragement to seek help, Livelsberger hesitated due to stigma in the military. He received several awards for his bravery but struggled internally. Their relationship ended in early 2021, but they remained friends until he married someone else.

Days before the explosion, Livelsberger texted Arritt, asking if she was single. She thought he was joking about renting a Cybertruck, but nothing in their conversations hinted at his distress. When she learned of his death, she was shocked, realizing how much he had been suffering.
